YMCAs have a tradition of working to enhance every stage of a young person's life, including offering support to parents. We are experienced at delivering training and have two packages that can be taken where they are needed in the community or developed into a bespoke project.

Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities

Leicester YMCA is an accredited facilitator for the Race Equality Foundation's national programme: Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities. The course aims to raise the consciousness of parents and help families develop: strong ethnic and cultural roots; positive parent-child relationships and a range of life skills such as self esteem, self discipline and social competence.

Black & Ethnic Minority (BME) Parenting Project

Home Office funding in 2003 put Leicester YMCA at the leading edge of BME parenting work. Our three year project researched, developed and piloted a training course locally and nationally. Our knowledge has been sought by other organisations such as the Youth Offending Service and we continue to develop this work. The parenting course is designed to empower parents by increasing understanding of issues relating to education health and crime.
