Leicester YMCA's Move-On Project
The Michael John Henry House was officially opened on 2nd August 2004 as a new Move-On Project, which gives 4 people aged 18-25 a supported transition to independent living. The first young people to move in have been living at the YMCA and were chosen for their integrity and how well they interacted with Lifeskills, YMCA staff and other residents. Additionally they were in training, education or employment.

The project was made possible thanks to the bequest of Michael John Henry and his family. Michael experienced homelessness first hand which changed his perspective on life. He dedicated much of his time to charity work with a primary concern for young people. Michael tragically died due to medical conditions in January 2001. Leicester YMCA was given ownership of the outstanding mortgages of 3 homes that Michael had purchased, the sales of which enabled Leicester YMCA to establish the Michael John Henry House as well as an annual award for education in his name. Michael’s legacy will have a lasting effect on the young people who experience living in the house.
