Our direct access homeless services based within the Dawn Centre are designed to give one to one support and practical help to rough sleepers and people who are vulnerably housed, aged 16 - adult. We strive to help everyone who comes through our doors and to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Practical Help 8am 10am

  • breakfast between 8am 9am for those in need
  • a safe and comfortable environment
  • access to toilets, showers, washing facilities and toiletries
  • free laundry facilities for rough sleepers
  • access to telephone for non-personal calls
  • a change of clothes where possible
  • emergency food parcels where possible

Advice and Information 10am 1pm

We provide holistic, person centred support to people with no alternative support networks. The introduction of personal development plans focuses the individual on moving forward, assisting them in the initial phases of stabilisation and helping them become solution focussed by developing reflective learning and transferable skills so they can achieve positive outcomes.

Our staff team have a broad knowledge of resources available and work closely with other agencies. Staff will provide:
  • help finding accommodation in emergency or longer term
  • welfare benefits advice and assistance
  • information and signposting to specialist drugs and alcohol agencies
  • a year-round health promotion programme
  • specialist mental health advice
  • help establishing identification
  • advice on managing debt

Employability Skills

As part of the citywide No Second Night Out partnership Leicestershire Cares deliver drop in workshops in our training room from 9am 1pm on Tuesdays and Fridays for clients seeking employment. This includes understanding the job market, writing CVs, improving reading and writing skills, interview preparation and work experience.

Medical Services

A full range of health services is provided by Inclusion Healthcare and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, alongside our mental health access worker.

Volunteers/Donations

We rely on donations in cash and kind to enable us to continue to provide a high level of service. We need help with:

  • Volunteers to help with refreshments and fundraising
  • Cash donations
  • Donations of non-perishable food and toiletries

We are located within the Dawn Centre, a unique project seeing all the main homeless services brought together under one roof, with The Y as the only voluntary sector provider. Close partnership working has resulted in the provision of high quality, seamless services for the community. The Dawn Centre also comprises:

The No Second Night Out partnership unites several voluntary and statutory organisations who want to ensure that rough sleepers are linked with accommodation and support services as quickly as possible.
