What is it?
Our Sports Leaders Award is a work based learning initiative which is part of the Foundation Learning Tier (FLT). It is designed for young people aged 16-18 who want to develop their interest in sport to gain new skills and job opportunities. The course takes 16 hours a week for about 22 weeks and may include work experience.What will I learn?
Sports training: coaching, fitness, safety, equality in sport, disability in sport, health and nutrition, planning a sports event and leadership skills.Sports activities include : basketball, football, hockey, kwik cricket, badminton, table tennis and gym.
Personal development: CV writing, interview techniques/role play, confidence workshop, money management, letter writing, drugs awareness and sexual health.
What qualifications will I gain?
- Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership
- English and Maths
- Certificate in Progression (NOCN)
Our Experience
- We developed one of the first sports based Entry to Employment (e2e) courses in the UK, which was awarded Gold Star Status by Sports Leaders UK in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Nationally e2e courses were changed to FLT courses in 2010.
- We won 'Making a Difference' at the 2007 e2e Awards and we have been a nominee for 'Provider of the Year'. Two of our learners also won e2e awards in 2008.
- We have been successfully delivering alternative education since 2002, working in partnership with Connexions Leicestershire, Leicester College, Rathbone and the National Youth Agency.
