Solo & Contact Workshop with Gabriele Reuter

This workshop is rooted in the technical principles of Contact Improvisation and release-based Contemporary Dance.
Gabriele Reuter said: "We use these techniques as tools to expand our physical capacity as solo dancers, with a partner and in group improvisation.

"They will feed our personal range of movement vocabulary and offer new approaches for choreographing and creating set material.

"After a start with dynamic group improvisations we continue on our own with alignment and awareness exercises and then alternate technical improvisations with simple movement phrases.

"Breaking down and practising patterns of falling, folding and softening into the floor, do's and don'ts of taking weight through the bones and a softness of skin and bones when dancing as a soloist will open our body and mind's sensitivity to listen and read another body when entering into contact and into group improvisations."

Gabriele Reuter is a dance artist based in Berlin and the East Midlands.

She studied Contemporary Dance and Arts Management at De Montfort University and London Contemporary Dance School before creating her own works and collaborations since 2003.

Her first solo “Inventory/Räumung” premiered 2008 at the nottdance festival in Nottingham and was shown internationally.

Her latest group piece “tourist” was nominated for the Prix Jardin d’Europe 2010 at idans Istanbul.

She has danced in the works of Rick Nodine since 2004 as well as Sioned Huws, Christoph Winkler and others. Gabriele teaches Contemporary Dance, Improvisation and Contact Improvisation regularly in dance institutions and Universities in Germany, the UK and internationally and has also worked as a mentor for young people and dance students in the UK.

Gabi will be giving a performance of her new piece "tourist" at Cultural Exchanges Week/nottdance on Tuesday, March 1, 8pm at Pace Building, DMU.
