The Y plays a part in the Creative Partnerships programme, designed to develop creativity in schools. We also provide high quality performances and workshops for schools, colleges and excluded young people in Leicester, thanks to funding from The Prince of Wales Foundation for Children & the Arts. Introduced in 2007, the Arts Development Officer (Youth Offending) is a new role and the first of its kind in the East Midlands. It will focus on developing support for arts work aimed at young offenders and young people at risk of offending in the Youth Offending Service. This post is supported by Leicester Youth Offending Service, Arts Council England, The Y and Soft Touch Arts. You can contact Beverley Sterling on 0116 204 6226 or by email here.The Y has recently secured funding from Safety Leicester Partnership to commission a new play and workshop programme which will look at preventative issues around gang culture. This new piece will tour to schools in Leicester in autumn 2008.

Dance Development

Managed by The Y, Leicester Jazz is a funded project that aims to provide, support and encourage jazz and related music in Leicester and Leicestershire. The Y produces a seasonal event leaflet and maintains the Leicester jazz website, which in two years has grown to include over 50 venues across the region and is accessed by over 2,500 people a month. The Y also represents Leicester and Leicestershire at the East Midlands Jazz Consortium.www.leicesterjazz.co.uk
