This October, Leicester’s longest running poetry night launches at The Y. Consisting of an open mic, professional act and regular pool of chipper comperes, WORD! has seen luminaries such as Mark Gwynne Jones, Zena Edwards and Niall O’Sullivan perform alongside the region’s finest up and coming talent. WORD! @ The Y will see poets and performers skip their vowels and strut their rhythms amongst the sofas of The Y’s brand new bar. It’s the beginning of an era - and we want you to be here!To celebrate WORD!’s exciting move to The Y, as well as Black History Season and National Poetry Day, WORD! has booked Patience Agbabi to perform in October. Born in London to Nigerian parents she spent her teenage years living in North Wales. Patience read English Language and Literature at Oxford University and is the author of three major collections, her first winning the Excelle Literary Award. She has been a poet in residence with the Poetry Society, featured on Channel 4 television and commissioned by BBC Blue Peter. She has read across the UK and around the world and now, she is coming to Leicester. See her read from her new collection Bloodshot Monochrome and remember the experience for a longtime.
