Skydive October 2018

We had two amazing daredevils take part in an organised tandem skydive to raise much needed funds for The Y. Shelisha and Sheriton not only work for us as part of the theatre team but were also willing to take on this crazy challenge and raise over £1000 between them for The Y.

For lots of people, something like a skydive is a real bucket list challenge but for fundraisers, it’s also a fabulous opportunity to take on your challenge by joining an organised tandem skydive whilst raising valuable funds for a worth cause. Imagine the incredible birds eye view as you descend from around 13000ft and the adrenaline rush of those seconds of free fall at up to 120mph. This is not a challenge for everyone so kudos to thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies.

Our two superstar fundraisers were originally booked in to jump on Saturday the 6th of October. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, this was postponed until Wednesday 10th of October where this finally happened at Langar Airfield. We cannot thank them enough for taking part, returning after it was rescheduled and raising such an incredible amount of money.

If you’d like to know more about doing a skydive for The Y, please contact [email protected] or call 0116 204 6227.

Let’s hear it for Shelisha and Sheriton, our fundraising heroes!

The Great Leicestershire Sleepout

Hollingsworths, a leicester based firm of solicitors organised a sleepout to raise funds for The Y and LAMP on Friday 5th October 2018. This was just a few days before World Homelessness Day and World Mental Health Day (Both on the 10th of October). This was a particularly poignant activity to organise and undertake. The Y is Leicester’s leading youth homelessness charity and LAMP are advocates in Leicestershire and Rutland for those affected by mental health issues.

Several members of the Hollingworths team took on the challenge and as a business they managed to raise OVER £3000 to be donated equally between The Y and Lamp. We are very grateful to Hollingsworths for their support as a chosen charity of the year and this incredible effort towards our Challenge 135 campaign in our 135th year.

They were featured on BBC Radio Leicester and ITV Central News raising awareness of the challenge and both causes.

Our CEO, Paul Brown and the Chair of our board of trustees, Kathryn Hamylton also took part and raised over £1000 between them. It’s worth noting how extremely proud we are of them both, especially since Kathryn is over 70 years old (I know she won’t mind us sharing that). Such an incredible effort from all who were involved.
