Update on the future delivery of our Flat 108 Enabling Independence project.

The pandemic response imposed severe restrictions on the project and we had to cease engagement entirely from March 2020. This is in addition to a significant downturn in demand for our service pre-pandemic. Therefore, we have recently reviewed the viability of this project in the context of our wider operations and sadly reached the regretful conclusion to close Flat 108 with immediate effect.

It has been a joy to have been able to offer a service within our wider community, that has supported young people to develop their independent living skills, confidence and future aspirations over the last few years prior covid! We hope you understand this was not an easy decision to reach and we will continue to look for future opportunities to work together to benefit our young people in Leicester.

We would like to thank the parents & schools we have worked with for their support. Thanks to BBC Children in need for having confidence in the project and funding Flat 108. Lastly, thank you to the young people for helping us develop the project and learn from their experiences.

Survey feedback needed

Heathwatch Leicester and Leicestershire are looking for participant to feedback in a survey they are carrying out. The aim of this project is to explore the experiences of SEND patients and carers when accessing dental services and the strategies in place to accommodate patients with special needs in Leicester and Leicestershire. If you’re an SEND patient or carer and would like to participate, you can complete the survey here.

Media and Partnerships

Flat 108 has been a key resource for students of West Gate School and Ashfield Academy who have featured in a short film about the service.  We also featured on the BBC in 2016 when we were awarded funding from Children in Need!  We’d also like to mention Big Mouth Forum which gives a voice to disabled young people in Leicester.
