Donating goods for young people

Thank you for considering donating to The Y. These items are for the direct benefit of our residents while they are in our supported accommodation or as they prepare to move into their own home. We are not a charity shop, therefore there are items we just cannot accept. To help us manage space, please get in touch to let us know when and what you will be donating fundraising@leicesterymca.co.uk

We’re happy to receive:

  • New or nearly new coats, hoodies and jumpers (please bear in mind our residents are aged 16-25)
  • New, unopened toiletries, washing powder, toilet roll (NO razors)
  • Food (within its use by date)
  • New or nearly new towels and bed covers (sheets/pillow cases suitable for a double bed)
  • New Kitchenware (cutlery/crockery/pans etc)
  • Good Condition DVDs
  • Good quality/Clean Rugs
  • TVs, Hoovers and other Electrical Items (please enquire if you are interested in donating)
  • Computer Games, Consoles etc and Laptops (please enquire if you are interested in donating)
  • Good quality Musical Instruments (please enquire if you are interested in donating)

Things we need MOST:

We regularly update this to reflect what residents and homeless service users ask us for.

  • Socks and pants for men (S, M, L) and women (sizes 10, 12, 14)
  • New Towels
  • Coats (good condition/ suitable for 16 – 25)
  • TV unit and/or bedside cabinet
  • Washing Powder
  • Toilet roll

What we can’t accept

  • Items in poor condition or damaged
  • Clothing (unless mentioned above)
  • Duvets and pillows (can take covers)
  • Baby/Children’s Clothing
  • Out of date food
  • Cds
  • Bric a Brac

Donating to YMCA Charity Shops

If you would like to donate items to the YMCA charity shop, there is one located in Coalville. Please contact them to find out more about how and what you can donate.

Support our Sensory Garden Project

We want to turn the massively overgrown green area at our Aylestone site into a sensory garden for residents. Think water features, flower beds, fruit trees, veg plots, composting area, seating, outdoor eating and even a place for meeting… but we need your HELP! We need volunteers and gardening equipment to help us get the job done. Below outlines how you can help this project bloom.

Equipment needed

All equipment needs to be new or in good, usable condition.

  • Trowels x4
  • Hoes x4
  • Spades x4
  • Garden Forks x4
  • Rakes x4
  • Thick Gardening gloves x 10
  • Goggles x4
  • Overalls x 4 (mixed sizes)
  • Safety Boots (mixed sizes)

Volunteers needed

We need a small team of volunteers to help clear the area in Spring/ Summer 2022. The clearing will take place over a 2 day period – dates tbc, but can be flexible. So if you have green-fingers, a love of the outdoors in winter and/or want to be part of a project that will blossom… please get in touch: fundraising@leicesterymca.co.uk
