Where to start

If you’re thinking about organising your own event to raise money for The Y, we are here to help you every step of the way. We can give you advice and inspiration to help you on your fundraising journey. There are so many ideas to choose from but you are in the right place! Here are a few key considerations and ideas.

Register your event

Contact our fundraising team to register your event with us. We’d be happy to help you along the way.

We have lots of useful information and can give you our experienced guidance. You can read our valuable fundraising tips here. Most importantly, we want you to enjoy the process and feel the sense of achievement you deserve for your charitable efforts.

Start planning

Leaving yourself plenty of time for the planning stage, have a think about:

  • What do you want to organise?
  • When will it take place?
  • Who will join you or support you?
  • Where will it take place?
  • Why? What is your target/aim?

Promote and share your event

Have a strategy for how you will tell people about your event and what they can do to support you. People really like to hear about good causes and your reasons for doing your event. Providing regular updates of your progress will allow your friends and family to cheer you on and help you get to your target.

Thank everyone

Make sure to provide updates after your event and tell people how much you’ve raised. Pass on your thanks to those who donated, sponsored or participated. Most of all, give yourself a very big pat on the back. We are so grateful to have your support and you WILL make a difference to a young person facing homelessness.

Pay in your donations

Don’t forget, donations still come in after the event. Your friends and family may make a donation even if they could not attend. Any donations made to online fundraising pages are usually paid directly to The Y. If you have monetary donations, you can speak to our team about alternative ways to pay in your sponsorship.
